LED function of PenMount touch controllers

As we all know, during initial phase of design-in, various problems are encountered and one of these could be false touch or no touch activation of your system touch function; and in order to assist you with quick diagnosis and solution, PenMount purposefully had an LED designed into its controllers. This built-in LED helps the system designer in analyzing where problem is coming from, whether the problem is between the controller and touch screen or the controller and the PC system. If you plan to design PenMount touch controller circuitry into your system, we recommend you to keep this LED design before your product enters mass production stage. It will assist your engineers to find out some design bugs, verifying design problems and analyzing phenomenon.

Upon connecting PenMount control board to touch screen and DC power ( +5V or others; please refer to each control board specification ), the LED will light up when the touch screen is touched; the LED will not illuminate if there is no touch activation, no matter if the control board is connected to the interface cable ( USB / RS-232 ) or not. If the LED does not light up when touching the touch screen, possible causes could be:
     1. The power is not well-connected or voltage is not enough ( DC 5V is suggested ).
     2. The cable between touch screen and control board is not well-connected.
     3. The polarity of LED soldered onto the PCB.

If the LED is always alight, this could be any of the following causes:
     1. The front bezel of the display is pressed to the active area of touch screen.
     2. The pin assignment of touch screen and the control board cable is incorrectly connected.
     3. The touch screen may have been installed inversely; the top front side facing down thus causing the active area
of the touch screen being unduly pressed.

Once there is false touch or no touch activation, this LED will help engineer to analyze where the problem is from hardware circuit design, or software or wrong installation. This is the reason we recommend to keep this LED design before product entering mass production stage. In addition, if you would like to wake up the system by touch screen from suspend or sleep mode, you can monitor the voltage change of LED component when the touch screen is touched, as long as the power is supplied to PenMount controller circuit. No matter what the definitions and configurations of the operating system and BIOS, touch screen will wake up the system if the power is supplied to PenMount controller.

If you use PenMount touch control board, there are suitable accessories for your selection. These accessories include:
      1.  4 or 5 or 8 wire touch screen extension cable; cables with AMP connector, Berg connector or ZIF termination.
      2.  RS-232 or USB interface cable.
      3.  Stylus Pen.
      4.  Driver CD.

Selecting PenMount touch controller is your best choice to meet your touch requirements.
