PenMount RS-232 and USB touch controllers
offer the distance extension option for
applications requiring controller be placed
a distance farther away from the PC. Is the
farthest distance allowed between the
PenMount touch controller and the PC?
Generally speaking, the ideal transmission
distance is below 12 meters; if with a
Repeater added, the distance between
PenMount RS-232 touch controller and the PC
can be longer. However, it still depends on
the environmental status between controller
and PC. There are two kinds of PenMount USB
transmission speed: full speed and low
speed. Full speed is 12Mbps, the effective
transmission distance can reach up to 5
meters; Low speed is 1.5Mbps, the effective
transmission distance can reach up to 3
meters. If you need longer distance, you can
use the USB HUB to extend the effective
transmission distance.
PenMount RS-232 series includes PenMount
9000 and 6000 chipsets; PM9026BH, PM9036BH,
PM6500 and PM6200C control boards. PenMount
USB series with low speed includes PenMount
5000 chipset, PM5126BH and PM51A5EH control
boards. PenMount USB series with full speed
includes PenMount 6000 chipset, PM6300,
PM6500 and PM6200C control boards.
We suggest the use of RS-232 Repeater to
extend the distance of PenMount RS-232
controller and the PC; and adjust PenMount
RS-232 controller to 9600 baud rate and
Non-PnP mode. In this mode, the data
transmission will be more steady than the
19200 baud rate and PnP mode. Also select an
extension cable with grounding design, and
make sure high frequency and high voltage
signal around to interfere touch data
transmitting. We have done the following :
under no high frequency and high voltage
signal environments without using a
Repeater, the distance between PenMount
controller and PC can be extended to 20
meters via RS-232 cable; no data lost or
delayed happened.
If you use PenMount 6000 USB touch
controller, the effective distance in theory
can be extended more than 5 meters; for
PenMount 5000 USB touch controller, the
effective distance is 3 meters. If you wish
to extend longer distance, we recommend the
USB HUB with power supply. According to the
USB organization information, the longest
transmitting distance of USB full speed can
reach up to 30 meters maximum, by using 5
USB HUBs with 6 extension cables of 5 meters
each. The USB low speed can reach up to 27
meters maximum. Be sure to use extension
cables with grounding, and avoid high
frequency and high voltage environments. |
