Linux is a family of operating system that
is characterized by open source, license to
multiple users, practicability, low cost,
powerfulness and stability, and is therefore
widely used for various applications such as
embedded systems, electronic digital
signage, medical computers and gaming
computers. Linux is more frequently modified
than any other operating system. Linux
kernel is modified almost each quarter and
thus the architecture of X Window System is
readjusted accordingly very often. In order
to provide the customers with the best Linux
support, PenMount team examines new Linux
kernel, X Window System, and all the latest
versions coming from various developers all
the time, so that PenMount can update the
drivers and publish the new versions.
Regarding PenMount’s Linux kernel support,
since PenMount’s touch control solution is
using the built-in USB-HID kernel
driver collocating with the X-Window driver
developed by PenMount. Hence, for the
compatibility between PenMount driver
editions, it is the edition of the X-Window
driver that counts rather than the edition
of the Linux kernel. Hence, as long as it
deals with a Linux kernel version 2.6.9 and
later, PenMount devices can be fully
supported. In order to provide more complete
support, PenMount is currently actively
developing the driver for Linux kernel.
The latest X-Window edition, X Server
1.8.0., is supported by PenMount now. In
this edition, the configuration of PenMount
device is slightly different from older
editions. In the X Server versions before
1.7.0, PenMount's parameters were set in
/etc/X11/xorg.conf. However, for the version
b1.8.0 and later, however, the parameters
should be configured in directory /etc/xorg.conf.d.
PenMount drivers help you overcome the
problems caused by the differences between
versions. All you have to do is to set
various parameters in PenMount.ini before
you install the driver. The installation
program will automatically update the system
and apply the latest PenMount settings.
Giving consideration to the fact that not
every customer knows exactly the version
numbers of the Linux kernel and X-Window
that he's using, PenMount decided to hold
ULinux as the criterion of the versions
issued (distribution). At present, the most
commonly used Linux systems that PenMount
supports are mainly Fedora, CentOS, Red Hat
Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and OpenSUSE (or
SLES). In general, PenMount's corresponding
drivers are issued to customers within one
month upon the releases of the new versions
of said Linux family. For example, PenMount
is currently exerting ourselves for
completely supporting the newly issued
Ubuntu 10.04, Fedora 13, and CentOS 5.5.
Since there are plenty of Linux versions
circulated out there, PenMount hereby
suggest that you check to find out the
version numbers of the Linux kernel and
X-Window that you're using if they are not
listed on PenMount website. So that you can
download the most approximate Linux drivers
on PenMount website. In most of the cases,
they will work compatibly.
Presently industrial PC are requiring more
and more diversity of hardware/software
designs, especially when it is on a Linux
O.S. PenMount has accumulated nearly 20-year
experience in product integration and
occupied great market share of industrial
PC. On customer’s request for special
application, PenMount is always pleased to
assist the customers in the development of
appropriate drivers and application
