As Linux is an operating system of open
resource that is subject to user's source
code modification and compilation, it is
more versatile than other operating systems.
After years of research and hard-working of
many people, various Linux editions have
been released and made available on market.
As PenMount has always spared no efforts
providing the customers with the most
complete Linux support, you'll always be
able to operate PenMount controller fluently
whether it is a Ubuntu, Fedora, OpenSUSE or
Mandriva that you are using.
We occasionally received feedbacks from
customers informing that they could not use
the PenMount driver downloaded from the
Linux kernel website or official Xorg
website. PenMount's newest controller series
are PenMount 6000 and 9000. Since Linux
editions are constantly updated and
modified, we suggest that you download the
appropriate driver from PenMount website
according to the Linux edition you are
using. If you cannot find the Linux driver
you need on PenMount website, check the
Linux distribution kernel and the Xorg
edition. For PenMount Linux drivers,
starting from V2.0.1, the Linux distribution
kernel and Xorg editions supported are
marked in the README file. Download the
appropriate PenMount driver according to
such README file. And see the following
examples:
-
Linux operating system is something like
a main trunk with many branches, there
are certain differences among the
branches, and among various Linux
editions, there are also connections
with each other. For example: CentOS and
Red Hat Enterprise Linux (commercial
edition) share the same source code,
however, as long as there are similar
kernels and Xorg editions, PenMount
Linux driver are very likely to be
supported. For example, if the system
you use is CentOS5.3, then you may
choose to install the suitable PenMount
driver for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.3.
-
It comes up also frequently that the
Linux distribution kernel you are using
is not listed on PenMount website, such
as Mandriva 2009.01. If this is the
situation, please check its Linux kernel
and Xorg edition and download the
approximate driver edition accordingly.
For example, for Mandriva 2009.01 that
uses Linux Kernel 2.6.29 and Xorg 1.6.1,
you may choose to download PenMount
Ubuntu 9.04 driver, because they use the
similar Linux Kernel 2.6.28 and Xorg
1.6.0. The closer the Linux Kernel and
Xorg are, the higher the compatibility
is, so that the PenMount device can be
successfully driven.
If the PenMount driver still doesn't work or
works abnormally even with similar kernel
and Xorg edition, we would need you to fill
out PenMount trouble shooting check list,
and describe more details about the
problems, you may also send the two files: /var/log/xorg.0.log
and /etc/X11/xorg.conf under Linux to our
PenMount service team by email, so that we
can investigate and fix the problem.
At this moment, the newest Linux editions
supported by PenMount are Ubuntu 9.10,
Fedora 12 and OpenSUSE 11.2. PenMount has
just reinforced them with some functions
recently, such as beep sound configuration
on graphic user interface and calibration
screen invoking, etc. We give the priority
to the support of the newest Linux edition.
If the Linux you're using is an old one but
wish to use new functions, your contacting
us is always welcome.
