Due to simplification and convenience,
Windows Embedded operating system is often
the 1st choice of industrial customers. With
customizable functionality, a Windows
Embedded operating system, for the purpose
of accessing internet only, can be
custom-configured to leave out Wordpad,
Paint or Calculator. Such flexibility makes
Windows Embedded even more advantageous than
other standard Windows versions whether the
hardware or the cost is concerned.
Now it's becoming a trend to use a
touchscreen for Windows Embedded, to name a
few examples such as car applications,
entertainment, consuming electronics,
industrial monitoring, medical equipments,
cell phones, POS, ATM and various tickets
selling systems. We received a lot of
inquiries from customers asking about the
support of Windows Embedded. At this moment
we support 2 types of Windows Embedded :
-
Windows Embedded of Windows XP kernel :
Windows XP Embedded, Windows Embedded
Standard 2009, Windows Embedded for
Point of Service and Windows Embedded
POSReady 2009.
-
Windows Embedded of Windows CE kernel :
Windows CE .NET 4.2, Windows CE 5.0 and
Windows Embedded CE 6.0.
Under the operating system group of Windows
XP Embedded, PenMount provides support by
the following 2 methods :
-
Pre-adding PenMount driver components to
system when building up system. This
method, on condition of a special
PenMount driver components kit, is
suitable for those who are familiar with
the building environment of Windows
Embedded. By employing it, you can
install only PenMount's drivers of USB
interface or RS232 interface first, so
that later when PenMount driver
components are added, related components
required will be automatically loaded to
system, so that the properly working of
PenMount drivers can be guaranteed.
-
Building system without pre-installing
PenMount drivers but installing
PenMount's standard Windows drivers
after system start-up. By employing this
method, you can flexibly select to
install any edition of PenMount Windows
Universal Drivers. However, it's normal
working is limited under the
circumstances that PenMount drivers are
likely to not working properly if their
necessary components haven't been
included in the system yet.
Windows Embedded of XP kernel can only work
in x86 hardware structure while Windows
Embedded of Windows CE kernel shows more
flexibility by working properly on x86, ARM,
MIPS and other RISC platforms. Windows CE is
not only smaller by volume and faster to be
started up but also suitable for systems
with CPU of inferior computing performance
and less memory. Additionally, a hard disk
or a CF card of bigger capacity for storage
device is also sufficient for Windows CE.
At this moment, PenMount supports the
commonly-used Windows CE editions, such as
4.2, 5.0 and 6.0. For various platforms such
as x86, ARM and other RISC, PenMount also
offers standard drivers and Stylus, the
special driver. The former employs
PenMount's special calibration program that
supports 4-, 9-, 16-point calibration. We
recommend that you calibrate according to
hardware performance. If the performance of
your hardware is only fair, you are
recommended to install PenMount driver
version 3.3 for your Windows CE and make
4-point calibration available only. If the
performance of your CPU is quite good, you
can set all calibration scales available. As
PenMount's Stylus driver is concerned, it
supports the calibration and the right mouse
button function that Windows CE has by
nature.
PenMount's hardware and software are
designed to meet the needs and demands of
the market; and if you have any specific
requirements of your own, we would be most
glad and ready to offer our full support and
assistance in your product development. For
