Guides To Using PenMount Resistive Multi-Finger Touch Solutions

The main purposes of PenMount Resistive Multi-Finger Touch Solutions are to provide “Confirmation” and “Safety” without increasing too much cost. This multi-finger touch option can allow operators of industrial equipments apply confirmation during critical operations, and as a result can increase the safety of the whole operation.

The PenMount Multi-Finger Touch Controller can support different sizes of touch panels; extra components such as sliding controls can be added according to customers’ needs. In this issue of PenMount Bulletin, we would like to share some of the multiple touch applications.

  • A control panel with multi-finger touch is set up in front of a safe deposit box.  Users can enter passwords by typing on the virtual keyboard, which can allow user to enter capital characters or special symbols.

  • A factory that uses robotic arms for manufacturing can use multi-finger touch screen to force the operators to use both their hands during the whole operation.

  • A DJ (disc jockey) using multi- finger touch screen for virtual mixer program with several buttons and functions. The DJ can then use one hand for function key, and the other hand for adjusting music volume.

These designs have adopted the PenMount multi-finger touch controllers and device drivers, which breaks the limit of traditional resistive touch techniques and introduce new applications to both existing and new machines. For customers that are already using PenMount touch solutions, changing to multi-finger touch solutions will not require many source code changes, since the protocol of multi-finger touch controllers is developed based on the existing products.

If you are planning to use PenMount Multi-Finger Touch controller to develop multiple touch enabled applications, we recommend that you design each operations on a single region only. Currently PenMount provides the Multi-Finger Touch device driver for Microsoft Windows XP and latter systems. We also provide SDK (Software Development Kit) for developers who are interested in developing application on Microsoft Windows. If you are developing multi-touch applications on other platforms like Linux, QNX or Windows Embedded CE, we can provide developing manuals.
