PenMount Resistive Multi-Finger Touch Supports Windows 7 Multi-point Touch

Multi-point touch input operation has become a feature of interest to everyone. On May 5th of 2009, Microsoft released and allows users to download their latest operation system, Windows 7 RC, which has features of multi-point touch. Microsoft Windows 7, in the market now, is the first multi-point touch application in the standard operating system. Earlier this year, PenMount published multi-point touch features for resistive touch panel. When Microsoft released Windows 7 Build 7000 beta version at the beginning for testing, we began testing and verifying the PenMount Resistive Multi-Finger touch M1 controller and PM6250 control board with AMT (Apex Material Technology Corp.) designed touch panel “MF series” and their compatibility. Under the verification in Windows 7 RC, we are pleased to say that PenMount M1 controller and PM6250 control board’s software and hardware design meet the request and specification of Microsoft multi-point touch feature.

Some of the application programs in Windows 7 RC can support Multi-point touch feature, such as IE explorer, Windows Explorer, Picture Viewer, Painter, and so on. Customers have asked that since Windows 7 supports multi-point touch, can we achieve multi-point touch by connecting two or more mouse devices? In fact, Microsoft's Windows 7 Multi-Touch feature is based on the Tablet PC feature extension and cannot support the general functions for mouse device or mouse emulation touch system. In other words, the touch system must be in compliance with Microsoft specifications’ Pen Input Device, in order to achieve multi-point touch.

The new version of PenMount Resistive Multi-Finger touch controller driver for Windows 7 is according to Microsoft standardized format for development. One only needs to install the proprietary drivers for Windows 7, with AMT’s MF Series of touch panel, you can then use the multi-point touch function of Microsoft in Windows 7. PenMount Multi-Finger touch driver will be officially announced by the end of May.

Additionally, we are also trying to come up with multi-point touch support for other operating systems besides Windows 7; we are also nearing completion of PenMount M1 controller’s software development documents. No matter what your operating system, you can always refer to these documents for a successful development of the proprietary drivers and application program (AP). If you are using Windows XP or Vista, we also have standard driver and software, application programming interface (API) to provide you. All you need is to know how to use the provided API with your system and make effective control of all regions of touch panel operations and settings.

PenMount team and AMT Resistive Multi-Finger Touch panel is currently the only analog resistive multi-point touch solution in the market. It is designable in various sizes of up to 22 inch. In addition to supporting a maximum of 12 multi-point touches for now, each touch zone still retains the traditional analog resistive touch screen function and mouse emulation functions. Therefore, touch-screen operation in the development of software can be flexible and diversified in its design of software interface - a multi-point touch in due course, or a single point operation.

The annual Taipei Computer Show, COMPUTEX 2009, will be held from June 2 to 6; and our PenMount Resistive Multi-Finger touch solution will be shown and demonstrated at the TWTC Nangang Exhibition Hall booth L1125a and the TWTC Exhibition Hall 3 booth G346. At the same time, from June 2 to 4 , AMT will also be exhibiting the Multi-Finger touch solution at booth 682 in the SID exhibition in Texas, U.S.A.
